Valise Insider: Malta’s Original Hideaway, Reimagined

The Valise Insider: new openings, fresh trends and the places we’re excited to share with you.

Malta has long been one of the Mediterranean’s best-kept secrets: honey-colored stone towns, a capital packed with history and art, wonderful food and wine, and that easy island pace. Now one of its most storied hotels has been beautifully reimagined, and it’s at the top of our list for travelers who want to slow down and reset.

Corinthia Palace: Malta’s original hideaway

Set opposite the historic San Anton Gardens, Corinthia Palace has been a landmark of Maltese hospitality since 1968. It feels more like a private residence than a grand hotel, and its newly refurbished rooms and suites, elegant gardens and quiet spaces bring a fresh, contemporary calm to a place full of character and warmth.

Life here follows a Mediterranean rhythm, with destination dining, intimate cultural experiences and restorative wellness. Its central location makes it an easy base for exploring the island: Valletta’s landmarks and contemporary art scene, historic towns like Mdina, local vineyards and the coastline.

Wellness with purpose

We’re seeing more and more clients ask for trips that leave them genuinely restored, not just tanned. Corinthia Palace leans into this beautifully. This November (12 to 15 November 2026) it hosts an intimate four-day somatic wellbeing retreat with Vince Dickson, founder of The Innerflow Process™, designed to help guests slow down, release stress and return home with more clarity. The retreat is limited to just 15 guests and includes three nights at the Palace, curated meals, a spa treatment and time to simply unwind.

Who will love it

Couples and friends looking for a quieter side of the Mediterranean. Busy professionals who need a real reset. And anyone who loves history, good food and gardens, and would rather settle into one beautiful place than race between many.

How we’d plan it

Malta is an easy add-on to a trip to Sicily or southern Italy, or a wonderful stand-alone escape of five to seven nights. We’d combine a few restful days at Corinthia Palace with private time in Valletta and Mdina, a day on the water around Gozo and Comino, and a long lunch at a local vineyard.
